Rockcast Radio Band Spotlight: iPrevail

I Prevail is an American rock band that emerged onto the music scene with a blend of post-hardcore, metalcore, and alternative rock. Formed in Southfield, Michigan, in 2013, the band quickly gained traction and a dedicated fan base due to their dynamic sound and energetic performances.

The band’s inception can be traced back to the meeting of two founding members, Brian Burkheiser (vocals) and Eric Vanlerberghe (vocals). They later recruited Steve Menoian (lead guitar) and Jordan Berger (rhythm guitar), completing the initial lineup. Their rise to fame was significantly aided by their cover of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space,” which they released on YouTube in December 2014. The cover went viral, amassing millions of views and bringing the band into the spotlight.

In 2014, I Prevail independently released their debut EP, “Heart vs. Mind.” The EP showcased the band’s ability to combine aggressive riffs with melodic elements, earning them a solid following. Their viral cover and successful EP garnered attention from several record labels, leading to their signing with Fearless Records.

Following their EP’s success, the band embarked on tours to expand their audience, sharing stages with other notable acts in the rock and metal scenes. Their hard work and growing popularity culminated in the release of their debut full-length album, “Lifelines,” in October 2016. The album received positive reviews and was a commercial success, reaching number 15 on the Billboard 200 chart. “Lifelines” featured tracks like “Scars” and “Stuck in Your Head,” which became fan favorites and exemplified the band’s knack for blending heavy and melodic elements.

In 2017, rhythm guitarist Jordan Berger parted ways with the band, and Dylan Bowman filled the position. The band continued to tour extensively, supporting “Lifelines” and building a reputation for their high-energy concerts.

I Prevail’s second studio album, “Trauma,” was released in March 2019. The album marked a significant step in the band’s evolution, incorporating more diverse musical influences and showcasing a range of emotions. “Trauma” included singles like “Breaking Down” and “Hurricane” and received critical acclaim for its raw and honest exploration of mental health themes. The album’s success was underscored by its Grammy nominations in 2020 for Best Rock Album and Best Metal Performance for the track “Bow Down.”

Throughout their career, I Prevail has been recognized for their ability to connect with fans through relatable lyrics and powerful performances. They have continued to evolve musically, pushing boundaries while staying true to their roots. As of their latest releases, I Prevail remains a prominent force in the rock and metal scenes, consistently delivering impactful music that resonates with audiences worldwide.

As the world entered 2020, I Prevail was poised to continue their upward trajectory, planning extensive tours to support “Trauma.” However, like many artists, their plans were abruptly altered by the global COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the band remained engaged with their fans through social media and virtual performances. They participated in online events and used platforms like YouTube to release exclusive content, maintaining their connection with their audience during a time when live performances were on hold.

In 2021, as restrictions began to ease, I Prevail resumed touring, playing at various music festivals and headlining their own shows. The return to live performances was met with enthusiasm from their fan base, eager to experience the band’s high-energy shows once again. During this time, they also began teasing new music, indicating that they were working on a follow-up to “Trauma.”

In 2022, I Prevail released their third studio album, “True Power.” This album marked another step in their musical evolution, showcasing a more refined and mature sound while maintaining the aggressive energy that characterized their earlier work. “True Power” was well-received by critics and fans alike, praised for its innovative approach and lyrical depth. The album’s themes explored personal struggles, resilience, and empowerment, resonating with listeners worldwide.

Following the release of “True Power,” the band embarked on an extensive tour, visiting numerous cities across the globe. Their live performances continued to captivate audiences, solidifying their reputation as one of the leading acts in the modern rock scene. The tour not only reinforced their connection with long-time fans but also attracted new listeners, expanding their reach and influence.
