SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — ROSÉ of BLACKPINK is set to release her debut solo album, Rosie, on Dec. 6. Ahead of the milestone, the 27-year-old K-pop star revealed she sought advice from one of pop music’s most successful solo artists, Taylor Swift.
In a recent interview with I-D published Monday (Nov. 18), ROSÉ shared details about a chance meeting with Swift, 34, during a New York City hangout hosted by producer Jack Antonoff at Electric Lady Studios. The connection came at a pivotal time for ROSÉ, as she prepared to launch her 12-track album outside the realm of her globally renowned girl group.
“I told her I’m such a huge fan, and I just had some questions,” ROSÉ recalled. “As soon as she met me, she’s like, ‘Spill, let me help you out.’”
Swift didn’t just offer advice — she also gave ROSÉ her phone number. The “APT.” singer described Swift’s generosity as remarkable. “Who does that? Like, you’re Taylor Swift!” she said.
ROSÉ expressed gratitude for the guidance, especially as she navigates the complexities of transitioning to a solo career. “I was at a moment where I was drowning a little,” she admitted. “She is literally the coolest, and she’s such a girl’s girl. She was telling me — ‘make sure to take care of this, this, and this’ — like logistics. She was trying to protect me. Me becoming solo, being independent, it’s not an easy thing. There are a lot of things I should be careful with, and she gave me a rundown on all the things I have to look out for.”
This is not the first time ROSÉ has publicly admired Swift. In February, the BLACKPINK member attended Swift’s Eras Tour performance in Tokyo, sharing a video on TikTok of herself singing along to “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)” with the caption, “Best 10 minutes in Tokyo.”
Swift, a self-proclaimed BLINK, has also shown support for BLACKPINK. In 2022, she used the group’s song “Pink Venom” in a TikTok video while on her way to the MTV Video Music Awards. That same night, cameras captured Swift dancing to the track during the show.
As Rosie nears its release, ROSÉ credits the invaluable advice from Swift for helping her prepare for her next chapter.
