Shortly after “ExtraL” was released on Friday, Feb. 21, Rosé, the New Zealand-born K-pop star, shared a screenshot on her Instagram Story of her BLACKPINK bandmate Jennie’s new music video for the track, captioning it with “this girlll” and adding heart emojis.
“ExtraL out now!!!,” Rosé wrote in her supportive post.
In “ExtraL,” Jennie and Doechii, known as the Swamp Princess, alternate verses before coming together on the track’s empowering chorus, which speaks directly to their audience. “Riding ’round, foreign cars/ Top down, staring at the stars/ Attitude, so don’t start,” they proclaim.
The track is set to be part of Jennie’s upcoming album, Ruby, scheduled for release on March 7. The album will also include previous singles “Mantra” and “Love Hangover,” featuring Dominic Fike. Four months after the album’s release, Jennie will reunite with her BLACKPINK bandmates for a world tour, with dates announced just three days before “ExtraL” dropped.
The reunion will include new music, as Rosé recently confirmed, marking the end of over a year apart during which the group members focused on solo projects. Rosé’s debut album, Rosie, led by the Billboard Global 200 hit “APT.” featuring Bruno Mars, was released in December. Bandmate Jisoo’s EP, Amortage, came out on Valentine’s Day, ahead of Lisa’s album Alter Ego, slated for release on Feb. 28.
Despite their time apart, the BLACKPINK members have consistently supported each other, a sentiment Jennie shared in her January Billboard cover story. “We are all so caught up with life,” she said. “Obviously, we can’t be calling each other every day.”
“Even though we know we can’t see each other so much, it doesn’t really feel any different than all the other years because we know we’re here for each other,” she continued. “They’re literally a phone call away. And at this point, we respect each other’s space so much. So if there’s anything to be happy for, to celebrate, we’re all in it together.”
