Sabrina Carpenter admitted that she “threw up” when she learned she would be a musical guest on Saturday Night Live.
After a decade in the music industry, the 25-year-old finally broke into the pop mainstream this year with her hit single “Espresso.” This new level of success has opened doors for her, including the chance to perform on the iconic sketch show.
“There were so many things I dreamed of doing as a little girl that I got to experience this year. It felt like such a sweet bucket-list moment for my younger self,” she told Time magazine. “I literally threw up when I found out about SNL. Not to be graphic.”
Sabrina appeared on the show in May with guest host Jake Gyllenhaal, performing “Espresso” along with her earlier hits “Nonsense” and “Feather,” and also participated in a sketch. Reflecting on her journey, she confessed that when she began her singing career in 2014, she never expected it would take ten years for her to perform at the MTV Video Music Awards.
“I grew up watching those performances and thinking, ‘I want to do that.’ But it all felt so distant, like I had a different timeline in my head for when things were supposed to happen,” she shared, reminding herself that she’s “still quite young.”
However, she acknowledged that she felt more prepared for her VMAs performance in September than she would have been years ago.
