Sammy Hagar and Kirk Hammett are considering a collaboration and have even come up with a title for their concept. The potential song, unsurprisingly, has a supernatural theme, influenced by Hagar’s interest in aliens.
“Kirk Hammett from Metallica is a big fan of all of that. We’re discussing writing a song called ‘The Seven Sisters.’ Well, we’re not writing it yet, but we’re talking about it. ‘The Seven Sisters,’ which is the Pleiades, where a lot of these people are coming from,” Hagar said on the UCR Podcast. “For the outro of the song, we’re planning to incorporate part of ‘Silver Lights’ from my 1976 solo album, ‘Nine on a Ten Scale."”
Hagar has a history of writing about aliens and their connection to Earth. He famously wrote “Love Walks In” during his tenure with Van Halen, which allowed him to explore those cosmic themes. His fascination with the subject began at a young age, prompting him to buy a telescope and read UFO books. This interest led to songs like “Silver Lights” and “Space Station No. 5” from the 1974 debut album by Montrose.
“I’m a firm believer – I have seen, have felt, have been contacted three or four different times,” Hagar told Guitar World. “I have received information that has been valuable in my life from those people, and they have used me. I’m going to sound like a complete nut here, but they have used me in an experimental fashion. The easiest way to put it is that they downloaded my brain information.”
Hammett, who has a passion for horror films and related memorabilia, developed an interest in space early on. “2001: A Space Odyssey was a huge influence on me,” he told UCR in 2022. “When that movie came out, my dad took me to see it in a theater, and I was only six or seven years old. For a kid to see that movie on the big screen, it was significant. I didn’t understand much of it, but the mood, atmosphere, and music left a big impression on me.”
For now, their collaboration is on hold. Hagar is set to begin his Best of All Worlds residency in Las Vegas on April 30, with performances through May. Fans can still enjoy new music from Hagar, who recently released “Encore, Thank You, Goodnight,” a song inspired by a dream about Eddie Van Halen.
