Shaquille O’Neals New Las Vegas Youth Center to Empower Local Kids

Shaquille O’Neal’s foundation has received approval to develop a new youth center in Las Vegas. The Clark County Commission unanimously approved plans for the Shaquille O’Neal Youth Development Complex near Lamb and Lake Mead boulevards. The location is ideal, as it’s across from three elementary schools. The complex will span around 34,000 square feet and include a gym, mixed-martial arts and boxing center, pre-K services, and more. Estimated to cost $24 million, construction is expected to begin in late March or early April, with a planned opening in fall 2026. The facility will host the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada and an alumni center for Communities In Schools of Nevada. Programming will focus on academics, leadership, career development, healthy lifestyles, sports and fitness, and creative arts.

Shaquille O’Neal founded his nonprofit in 2019 to help underserved youth, primarily in Atlanta and Las Vegas. A former NBA player, O’Neal has been actively involved in the Las Vegas community. He opened the Big Chicken sandwich shop near the Strip in 2018 and organized a charity event with Zappos in 2019. In 2021, he received a key to the city from then-Mayor Carolyn Goodman for his foundation’s contributions to renovating local basketball courts.
