Taylor Swift Becomes Most-Awarded Artist in Billboard Music Awards History

The 2024 Billboard Music Awards took place last night, Dec. 12, on the eve of Taylor Swift’s birthday. It was a historic evening for Swift, who became the most-awarded artist in the show’s history.

Swift, who entered the night with 16 nominations, took home 10 awards, including Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Hot 100 Songwriter, Top Streaming Songs Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist, Top Billboard Global 200 Artist, Top Billboard Global Artist, and Top Billboard 200 Album. These wins brought her career total to 49 Billboard Music Awards, surpassing Drake’s record of 34.

Drake, who had eight nominations this year, did not win any awards.

In a video message, Swift thanked her fans for their support:

“Thank you to the fans, because Billboard is counting your stuff. They’re counting what you listen to, the albums that you’re passionate about. I count these as fan-voted awards because you guys are the ones who care about the albums and come see us in concert. Everything that’s happened with The Eras Tour and The Tortured Poets Department, I just have to say thank you. It means the world to me that you guys embraced the things I’ve made, and the fact that you care so much about my music.

This is the nicest early birthday present you could have given me. So, thank you very much. I love it. It’s exactly what I wanted.”
