Eastern Canadian rock band Turbo, featuring vocalist/guitarist Evan Frizzle, guitarist Lindsey Dicks, bassist Henry MacDonald, and drummer Sylvain Coderre, have just dropped a music video for the title track of their latest album, Broke & Ugly, which came out on July 12, 2024.
The tracklist for Broke & Ugly is as follows:
Ruthless Forever
Ignite The Night
No Savior
Scorpio Garbage Fire
PissJugs and Rattlesnakes
Nothing To Nowhere
Broke & Ugly
Down In Mexico
In their press release, Asher Media Relations shared, “Band life means constantly being broke, but still doing it for the love of music and the road. Halifax’s own Turbo fully embraces this in their music video for ‘Broke & Ugly,’ the title track off their sophomore album.”
With a low budget and a trailer as their practice space, Turbo proves they’re not afraid to show they’re “Broke & Ugly.” They explain: “The title track was written during a tough time financially. Since that’s pretty much Evan’s constant state, who better to capture that mindset in lyrics? The song is catchy, sarcastic, and has our favorite chorus on the album: ‘Got no money, and STILL f*ckin’ ugly!’ Hopefully, someone out there can relate to that.”
Known for their raw, gritty sound, Turbo has once again brought high energy and intensity with Broke & Ugly. The band comments, “‘Broke & Ugly’ is our second album, and it hits hard. The music is raw, dirty, and aggressive, but also tight and flashy. The lyrics are bold and honest, capturing what was going on in Evan’s head when writing the songs. The themes range from partying and drugs to past flings and life on the road. It’s edgy, real, and undeniably Turbo.”
Turbo formed with a clear goal: to create something bigger, bolder, and unapologetically aggressive. Evan Frizzle, Sylvain Coderre, Lindsey Dicks, and Henry MacDonald have poured everything into this album, creating a sound that mixes thrash, NWOBHM, glam metal, punk rock, and hardcore. The result is an original and intense listening experience that grabs your attention and refuses to let go.
The album artwork, created by the band’s friend Tim Murray, captures Turbo’s unfiltered style. The cover shows a grimy bathroom in a dive bar, complete with nods to Turbo’s previous songs and a green hand reaching for toilet paper from a broken urinal. It’s the perfect visual for an album that’s loud, dirty, and filled with thrashing energy. Fans of W.A.S.P., Motörhead, and Judas Priest are in for a treat with this seven-track rollercoaster of sound.
