The long-awaited release of Slipknot’s album “Look Outside Your Window” has become a significant topic among fans, with the record now set to be released in 2025. However, percussionist Clown has advised fans to manage their expectations. In a conversation with Knotfest.com, Clown clarified that the album was never intended to be a Slipknot album during its creation, and it should not be considered one upon release.
For Slipknot enthusiasts, the anticipation for “Look Outside Your Window” has been growing over the years. The album was recorded during the same time as the band’s 2008 release “All Hope Is Gone,” meaning the wait for its release spans nearly two decades. The album has gained a mysterious reputation among fans, having been described as a more experimental project. Corey Taylor has mentioned that it possesses a “rock vibe,” even likening it to Radiohead during a discussion on Eddie Trunk’s show.
Guitarist Jim Root has expressed his frustration over the album’s delay, even considering leaking it to expedite its release. However, Clown has stated that his work on the album is complete, and it has been handed over to management for release planning. The album was crafted by Slipknot members Corey Taylor, Sid Wilson, Jim Root, and Clown.
Reflecting on the sessions, Clown recounted the busy schedule as the band members worked on multiple projects simultaneously. He mentioned the dynamic of extended work hours and the camaraderie among the band members. Clown emphasized that although the music was created by Slipknot members, it does not align with the band’s traditional sound. The lyrics reflect the band’s experiences during that period, although specific themes were not detailed.
Currently, the album does not have a set release date, but Clown confirmed in December that it had been submitted to management. Additionally, Slipknot plans to begin work on their next studio album later this year.
During the sessions for “All Hope Is Gone,” some band members worked on a separate batch of melodic tracks, eventually leading to the creation of “Look Outside Your Window.” Only Clown, Corey Taylor, Jim Root, and Sid Wilson were involved in these sessions. Clown described the collaborative process, emphasizing the experimental nature of the music. A total of 11 tracks were recorded, with some appearing on other albums.
Corey Taylor expressed his desire to combine the material from “Look Outside Your Window” with “All Hope Is Gone,” but internal band dynamics prevented this. One track, “Til We Die,” was released as a bonus on a special edition of “All Hope Is Gone,” while another, “My Pain,” found its place on the 2019 album “We Are Not Your Kind.”
In summary, “Look Outside Your Window” is an experimental and artistic project distinct from traditional Slipknot music. While it incorporates contributions from band members, it should be approached with an open mind concerning its unique style and sound.
