Young MCs Triumphant Return: Mixing Classic Hits with AI Innovation

Marvin Young, known as Young MC, initially gained fame with his 1989 hit “Bust A Move,” which won him a Grammy for Best Rap Performance. Now at 57, he’s back with a fresh sound through his Disco Theory label, releasing singles like “Loose,” “Fun Part,” and “Kinetic.” His track “Fun Part” made it to No. 38 on Billboard’s Rhythmic Airplay chart, marking his return to the charts since 2002.

Young’s new music introduces “Disco Teresa,” an AI-generated voice serving as a hype partner in his tracks. Designed as a mannequin-like figure in the “Fun Part” video, Disco Teresa provides a mechanical tone for interaction. Young emphasizes he still writes his songs, using AI as a creative tool rather than a replacement.

The incorporation of AI extends to visuals, with AI-generated cars featured in the “Fun Part” video. Young enjoys balancing traditional creativity with technological innovation, ensuring he remains true to his artistic identity.

Continuing to perform live, Young shares stages with artists like Vanilla Ice and Montell Jordan. He values live performances as a career cornerstone, blending classic hits with new material. While unsure about an album release this year, Young embraces the journey, confident in producing some of his best work yet. His goal remains to create music that transports listeners to a joyful place.
